Summer 2024 on Film

Summer! Film! Is! Here!

What a fun surprise it is to receive film back from several months of travels, outings, and random summer fun. It’s rare that I remember everything I shot over the span of several months, so clicking “open” on those folders—without a doubt—always makes me smile. This summer was a bit different for us, with some really high highs, and admittedly, some pretty low lows. We kicked off in Nashville, making the most of our time left in the city and exploring every inch of our neighborhood, and then some! We spent several long weekends at my parents’ lake house soaking up the sun, all before making our eventual move back to Birmingham, which—believe me—was long-awaited and welcomed!

Long story short…the rest of our summer fun was cut quite a bit short because of a house fire. But looking at these photos makes me grateful for the fun that was had leading up to that point, and I feel certain that years from now, those painfully long months of July & August will feel like a blip in time!

Believe it or not, I’m still getting to know my film camera, and I’m having more fun experimenting with some self-timed shots! Every camera seems to have its own personality, and maybe it’s just the artist in me…but some of the out-of-focus shots are the dreamiest, IMO. Inspired by seeking out European architecture and creating my own European summer aesthetic, this recent film delivery (and our current set of circumstances…) has officially given me the itch to travel. I’ll just leave the rest to your imagination. Wink.

Some highlights to look out for below…

—The dreamiest afternoon spent exploring Cheekwood Gardens & Mansion in Nashville

—Some of the best photos ever taken of the lake house, if I do say so myself

Many photos in my favorite element: out on the water!

—A blink and you’ll miss it photo of our apartment on move day (I’m not bitter or anything…)

—A little preview of some early fall content, because I decided I needed the season to come early this year!

Enjoy!
