Classic Pinterest Outfit Combos to Copy This Summer
A closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. And you’re either: 1. Already running late for work or 2. Over-packing yet again, because sometimes it’s far easier to pack your entire closet than taking the time to piece things together ahead of time.
Been there!
Although I’m still hard at work over here making each piece in my closet count (we all have those unworn pieces we swear we’ll get around to “someday”), I have found a few processes that have made my relationship with my wardrobe a little less stressful. It’s safe to say that at this point, I pretty much have all of my closet staples covered thanks to my little shopping habit. To keep items from remaining unworn when I just can’t remember my intention behind buying it at all, I often look to my Pinterest boards or something I’ve seen another social creator wearing for inspiration.
I find that the easiest way to get dressed in the morning when I’m feeling a little less-than-inspired is to start by copying a basic outfit combination that I’ve seen somewhere out in the world, using my already-owned items to give it a personal touch. Like they say, steal like an artist! This simple practice will get your creativity flowing, and eventually it’ll even be fun! Promise.
Below are some simple combinations (sourced from classic outfits I’ve noticed regularly appearing on Pinterest) that you can reach for as well when you’re just at a loss of what to wear this summer—and odds are, you probably have a few of these items in your closet already!
All White Maxi Skirt Outfit
I can’t name a better way to accentuate a well-earned tan this summer! I’m so thankful that the modest maxi skirt has stuck around, because it’s just so flattering and comfortable. The simplest way to elevate your maxi is to pair it with a little white top for a monochromatic look, and also to balance out its volume. Truly, you don’t need to add many accessories except a little dainty gold jewelry and a bottle of rosé!

Tank Top + Linen Pants + Belt
This combination is so classic, it’s hard to pass through your Pinterest feed without seeing some version of it, let alone being able to tell what year the photo came from! What a refreshing idea that you won’t run the chance of getting the infamous ick looking back on photos of yourself in this classic combo. Are we in 2016 or 2023? Who knows? This waist-cinching pairing will be flattering on any body type, and you can always drape a summer sweater over your shoulders for a little extra coverage, if need be.

Oversized Button Down + Linen Shorts + Crossbody Bag
Behold, the time-tested uniform of the girl-on-the-go in Europe. This comfortable, breezy combination will easily take you from your walking tour of Rome to a chic little brunch in-between sightseeing. Of course, it also fares well for everyday life when you don’t want to put in all that much effort, but still look well put-together. Pair with a comfortable—but chic—pair of sandals and some chic sunnies, and you’re good to go!

I love an earth-toned linen situation more than most, but these little button-down sets have provided such a fun excuse to experiment with color in my personal wardrobe. I love throwing one of these on for traveling days, lazy days at the lake or beach, and even casual brunch outings! Pair with a clean, white tank for an effortless, casual summer look.

White Maxi Dress + a “Third Piece”
A white maxi is such a classic summer staple, it doesn’t need much explaining, or accessorizing, for that matter. This is where the simple “third piece” comes in—which is a personal element that adds a little something to an otherwise pretty straightforward outfit. Add a standout pair of sneakers, a lightweight sweater, bucket hat, or a chic bag to complement your look in the most uncomplicated way.

It’s a classic for a reason! Consider this the easiest outfit to find on the market, and adjust according to your personal style. Accessorize with black sunnies, a black belt, and a black bag—and consider it done!
